Weekly Trials and Tribulations of the Scenic City Chapter of the TTA

Weekly Trials. Tribulations and Photos experienced while hiking

Little Cedar Mtn. 2.27.18

What a beautiful day for a hike.  The temperature started out in the high 40s and gradually warmed up to the low 70s by the end of the hike.  This meant that at every stop someone was stripping off their jacket or sweatshirt.  Little Cedar Mountain has always been one of my favorite hikes since we first started hiking there some years ago.  As you leave the parking lot, you hear some freeway noise which no one likes, but as you progress up the mountain the noise fades and you feel very comfortable in a beautiful rocky forest.  The beginning of this hike is uphill but it isn't bad.  I would rate the hike as easy to moderate.  The trail was clear, but with all of the recent rain, it was soggy and very slippery in spots.  There was no standing water on the trail.  We stopped for a snack at the top of the mountain before heading back.  The distance of today's hike was 5.1 miles and that took us a total of three hours and fifteen minutes for the 19 hikers.  I think that everyone had a great time except Mr. Turtle.  Seems he had a bit of an off day as you can see from the photos.  After the hike and following considerable discussion we went the the local Logan's Road House for lunch. Sluder Lane to Rock Climber's P.L.

We hiked an approximately 6 mile loop to Deep Creek from Sluder Lane and returned to Sluder Lane via the Rock Climbers parking lot. The weather was very nice for most of the hike but we did get a little bit of a mist toward the end of the day. We lunched in the Deep Creek area.
This hike was rated as strenuous mainly due to the steep climb from the Deep Creek Canyon to the Rock Climbers Parking Lot on our way back to the Sluder Lane parking area.
