Weekly Trials and Tribulations of the Scenic City Chapter of the TTA

Weekly Trials. Tribulations and Photos experienced while hiking

Enterprise South 3.9.13

Only two hikers on this one, Nance Jo and Earl.  All of the regulars went on a hike to Fall Creek Falls.  Since it was a planned 10 miler, I decided not to go.  It was overcast, but the temperature was just about right for hiking.  Instead the two of us went to Enterprise South to hike a trail that we had not hiked before.  The name of the trail is Hawk's Ridge.  The length of the trail is 3.1 miles one way.  We stopped at one of the picnic areas for a brief snack and then continued on.  Along the way we heard a slight rustle in the leaves.  Low and behold there was a slightly confused adult possum.  You can see a couple of pictures of it in the pictures section.  It didn't seem much concerned about us, and we decided to leave well enough alone and continued on the hike.  We took Dogwood Ridge Trail on the return.  We had not hiked in the park on Saturday before, but the parking areas were all nearly full.  With so many trails, there were still not many people on each trail.  The total distance was 4.6 miles and I would rate it as moderate.  On the way back we stopped at the Rib & Loin for a sandwich.  To see a few pictures of today's hike, click on the Enterprise South tab above.

Veterans Park 3.5.13

Today we had 12 hikers.  This was very surprising since it was a damp dreary day with heavy rain forecasted.  Collegedale really did themselves proud with this park.  It is not large, but it is beautifully maintained.  There is some military equipment on display as well as some statues.  There is a huge American Flag on display with all of the state flags surrounding it.  We started out with our rain gear just in case, and sure enough, before long the rain came.  Luckily for us it was light and did not last long.  The hike was entirely on a cement path winding through the woods.  Everyone relaxed as the group wandered along.  After the hike, we went to the City Cafe for lunch and as always had a good time there as well.  The distance of the hike was 4.1 miles and I would rate it as easy.
