Weekly Trials and Tribulations of the Scenic City Chapter of the TTA
Weekly Trials. Tribulations and Photos experienced while hiking
Piney River @Shut-In-Gap Road
This was another very nice hike on a somewhat gloomy day. We had 20 souls joining us as we started out. At just about the two mile mark we reached a stream crossing that we decided it was too dangerous to cross. The trail and especially the rocks had been very slippery. The distance of this hike turned out to be 3.9 miles and I would rate it as mostly easy. The hike took just about three hours and the moving average was only 2.1 mph because of the slipperiness of the trail. We did have one injury, a severely bumped noggin. This was caused by an overhanging rock along the trail. The hike took just about three hours. If you would like to see some pictures taken along the way, click here. The pictures include an altitude graph as well as a couple of maps. To see a short video of the Piney river, click here.
