Weekly Trials and Tribulations of the Scenic City Chapter of the TTA

Weekly Trials. Tribulations and Photos experienced while hiking

Raccoon Mountain 3.12.13

There were twelve of us on today's hike.  We weren't quite prepared for the cold weather in the morning.  I for one didn't bring a hat or gloves.  I expected it to be much warmer, nearly froze my fingers off.  Anyway, we had a great hike.  We staged cars so that we did not have to retrace any steps.  The views were great!  Three quarters of the way through the hike, the sun came out and it warmed quickly.  People were shedding clothes like crazy.  The distance of this hike was 4.2 miles and I would rate it as easy-moderate as there were a couple of steep hills near the end.  If you would like to see a few pictures, click on the Raccoon Mountain tab above.

Fall Creek Falls 3.9.13

George, Joan, Larry, Boodie, Rick   As I said in the previous post, the hardiest of our club went to Fall Creek Falls and hiked a loop up there.  This time the distance was 12 miles and as I understand it, even Boodie and George were beat after the final climb out.  They passed by two campgrounds with drinking water at each one.  One campground even had an outhouse.  The picture of the waterfall was off trail.  The water was flowing heavily at each of the three suspension bridges they crossed.  On a sad note one of the creeks they crossed claimed a GPS that fell out of a pocket.  I would rate this trail as severe.  For a few pictures click on the Fall Creek Falls tab above.
