Weekly Trials and Tribulations of the Scenic City Chapter of the TTA

Weekly Trials. Tribulations and Photos experienced while hiking

Signal Point 7.9.13

Today we had fourteen hikers.  The day started off very foggy, and remained heavily overcast throughout the hike.  Everything was very wet after the rain we have had, making it quite slippery.  Needless to say, the steps going down from the Signal Point Overlook were especially treacherous.  Everyone went slow, and everyone made it without incident.  Later, during the hike, one hiker, Bob, did fall.  It was a nasty fall on the rocks and Bob suffered skinned knees, bruises and cuts on his head and two cracked ribs.  This shows that no matter how careful you are, accidents can happen.  Our original goal was Edwards Point, but we were surprised when we found out that the swinging bridge was heavily damaged and that we couldn't cross Middle Creek.  Even though we had only gone a couple of miles everyone was soaked from the humidity.  We decided that rather than hike back we would go up to the golf course and walk back from there.  This would be a much easier route.  I am estimated that the distance at about 3 miles since my GPS stopped for some reason.  I would rate this trail as moderate.  If you would like to see a few pictures, click on the Signal Point tab above.

Today we had 15 people on the hike.  The weather was overcast, but no rain.  This is a very nice trail that wanders its way through Collegedale.  This trail is entirely on a cement pathway.  For me this means sore calves the next day.  For some reason cement does this.  We all had a delightful time.  Afterward we went and had lunch at a Peruvian restaurant.  Very interesting.  The distance was a little over 6 miles and I would rate it as easy.  For a few pictures, click on the Wolftever tab above.
