Laurel Falls 1.21.14 For our Tuesday morning hike we had 13 lucky hikers meeting at the Durham Street parking lot in Soddy Daisy and carpooling to Dayton for a hike to Laurel Falls. The beginning temp was a balmy 41 degrees as we started out but as luck would have it the temp decreased for the remainder of the day and the winds increased. Once we reached Laurel Falls we were fortunate enough to enjoy snow flurries as we headed back down towards the trailhead. I would consider this hike as easy to moderate with the total mileage just under 5 miles. Even with the slight change in the weather I believe everyone enjoyed today’s hike. Sluder Lane to Deep Creek
Today we had seven hikers (Boodie, George, Gloria, Bob, Carl, Gary, and John). The hike is rated as strenuous and was about 6.5 miles. The day was pretty but cold with the morning temperatures starting around 20 degrees. We originally planned to hike to Big Soddy Creek but turned around at Deep Creek due to icy conditions and above average water levels in Deep Creek. One of our hikers tested the water temperature at Deep Creek and found it to be a little chilly. A few pictures of the hikers and icicles are attached. All seemed to enjoy the hike.
A few of us stopped by the Huddle House to enjoy a chocolate milkshake on the way home.
