Weekly Trials. Tribulations and Photos experienced while hiking

Mowbray Pike to Sluder Lane

1.6.15  Today's hike was 5 miles on the Cumberland Trail starting at the Mowbray Rd trailhead and ending at the Sluder Lane parking area. It was cool, but otherwise it was a perfect sunny day for hiking.  The nine hikers were Nancy, Kathy, Lewis, Don, George, Sarah, Donna, Ed and John.  I would rate the hike as moderate.  After the hike everyone enjoyed a meal at a local Soddy Daisy restaurant.  For a few pictures, click here or on the Mowbray tab above.

Little River 1.3.15

There were only three hikers on this difficult hike.  The trail is 15 miles long but today the hikers only went in 1.5 miles and then turned around and hiked back out.  It took three hours for the tough trip.  By looking at the pictures you can see that the conditions were not good.  If you would like to see a bunch of pictures, click here or on the Little River tab above.

Stringer's Ridge

12.30.14    There were only five hikers on this relatively short hike of 3.7 miles.  It had been raining during the week so the trail was treacherous.  Luckily there were no rocks to have to climb over, but everyone had to be very careful.  Following the meal, everyone enjoyed a delicious meal.  I would rate this hike as moderate only because of the slippery conditions.  If you would like to see a few pictures of the hike just click here or on the Stringer's Ridge tab above.

Rainbow Lake to Edwards Point 12.16.14

12.16.14    Today's hike was 4.6 miles.  The hike in was uneventful on this cool day.  Once at Edwards Point, the group separated and four of the hikers took a longer route back and finished about thirty minutes behind the others.  Everyone enjoyed this moderately tough hike.  To see a few pictures, click here or on the Rainbow Lake tab above.

Piney Creek Falls 12.13.14

There were six people on todays hike.  As you can see from the dress, it was a rather cool day.  It was especially cool and wet around the falls.  The group explored both the upper and lower falls and actually went behind the 70 foot falls.  To get to the bottom, they had to cross the creek and climb down using a rope for support.  It was a great hike and enjoyed by all.  I would rate the hike as strenuous, but I don't know the distance.  For a bunch of photos, click here or on the Piney Creek tab above.  Thanks to John and George for all the great pictures.
