Weekly Trials and Tribulations of the Scenic City Chapter of the TTA

Weekly Trials. Tribulations and Photos experienced while hiking

Blue Blazes Trail

6.11.13  There were 11 hikers on this hike.  The hike was extremely muddy after all of the rain we have been having.  After hiking the Blue Blazes trail, the group walked to the top of the mountain to overlook Chattanooga.  The weather was good and the hike was over before it became too hot.  It was still to early to  eat so everyone went their separate ways.  I would rate Blue Blazes as easy and the hike up the mountain as moderate.   If you would like to see a picture of the group, click on the Blue Blazes tab above.

National Trails Day

6.1.13 National Trails Day at Greenway Farms.   We had a good turn out of hiking club members but not a very good customer turnout.  Everyone had a good time despite a couple of light showers.  There was food, snacks and drinks for everyone, including the ants.  Not much wildlife was seen, but a butterfly did seem to like something on one of the stands and it kindly allow me to photograph it.  George and Nancy Jo led some hikes on the trails.  For a few pictures click on the National Trails day tab above.

Heiss Mtn.

There were nine hikers on the trail today.  Three of them had never hiked this trail before.  It was a beautiful day with lots of water in the streams.  The distance was approximately 3 miles and I would rate it as moderate.  Everyone had a good time.  If you would like to see a few pictures click on the Heiss Mtn. tab above.  After the hike some of the hikers got together and went and bought strawberries.

Flipper Bend 5.25.13

There were ten hikers on this Flipper Bend hike.  It was a beautiful day with the views from the overlook being absolutely stunning.  The distance of this hike was ten miles.  Lunch was enjoyed at "The Big Rock".  I would rate this hike as moderate.  If you would like to see a few pictures, click on the Flipper Bend tab above.

Roaring Creek

5.18.13   Roaring Creek  It was a bit damp today.  It rained on us most of the first half of the hike, but the rain was very light.  There were 11 of us on this hike.  The only wildlife we say were a couple of turtles.  The initial part of this hike is all uphill, but not too bad if you are in shape.  Unfortunately, since it was so overcast, it was difficult to show a great deal of color in the photos.  I did shoot some photos of some of the mosses and fungi that were along side of the trail.  On the way back down, we found the most beautiful Rhododendron.  It was bright purple and just starting to open (see pictures).  The new section of the trail offers a wonderful overlook, but unfortunately it was completely cover by clouds.  I would rate this hike as moderate.  The total distance of the hike was about 8.5 miles.  If you would like to see a few pictures, click on the Roaring Creek Tab above.
