Weekly Trials. Tribulations and Photos experienced while hiking
Heiss Mtn. to Amphitheater
8-10-11 Nance Jo, McBob, John, George and Earl. An absolutely beautiful day for a hike. A little warm and a little humid, but not that bad. We hiked from the parking area at Heiss Mtn. just off Heiss Mtn. Road to the Amphitheater and returned. The Amphitheater is a large section cut out of a rock face. It is in the shape of an Amphitheater, duh. From the Amphitheater we hiked down to an old roadway and returned. Big Possum Creek was not very big this time of year, but there was some water flowing. The hike was right at five miles and lasted just under four hours. There were frequent rest stops and a good long lunch at the bridge. I would rate the hike as moderate.
