Weekly Trials and Tribulations of the Scenic City Chapter of the TTA

Weekly Trials. Tribulations and Photos experienced while hiking

Blue Blazes

1.22.13  Today we had eleven hikers.  This hike started off with breakfast at Lillie Mae's.  Breakfast was a great success.  Maybe we should be an eating club instead of a hiking club?  Seems that whenever we have an eating event more people show up.  Anyway breakfast was a great success with lots of good eats and talking.  Then we drove to Bi-Lo to meet anybody that missed breakfast and then onward to Blue Blazes.  First we hiked the Blue Blazes Loop and then we went up the street and hiked up another segment of the trail that is scarcely hiked.  This hike segment was 2 miles round trip which which made the whole hike a 3.5 miler.  On the trail we met Caroline who had gone ahead of us.  I would rate Blue Blazes proper as easy and the segment as moderate.  The segment trail was a 2.8% upgrade so we were all a little winded.  The segment trail has some artifacts remaining from the Civil War.  These consisted of bunker remains from canon positions.
